The original Lighthouse Club was formed in Newcastle-upon Tyne in 1956 by Edward Ward and his colleagues attending an exhibition at Whitley Bay.
The name "Lighthouse" comes from St. Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay. The essence of the club is to promote goodwill and co-operation between people involved in the construction industry.
The Abu Dhabi Chapter of the Lighthouse Club started in April 2006. A small group of enthusiastic Lighthouse Club members from other parts of the world, mainly from Hong Kong and Dubai, who found themselves in Abu Dhabi, decided that it would be a good idea to start a Chapter in Abu Dhabi. Through word of mouth, a small gathering was held at The Club and an interim Committee was appointed. Since the first Monthly Gathering, the Abu Dhabi chapter of the Lighthouse Club has grown steadily. A Monthly Gathering has been held at The Club every month members and guests regularly attend the Gatherings, which are held on the 1st Thursday of each month. These monthly gatherings are kindly sponsored by leading companies with an interest in Abu Dhabi’s construction industry.
The Lighthouse Club Abu Dhabi has two equally important objectives:
To promote fellowship amongst its members;
And to support our commuity through our Benevolent Fund.
The Lighthouse international network is alive and strong, with clubs located around the world. To view our international network click here.
Our Benevolent Fund gives help to people within the construction industry. It helps provide assistance to victims of accidents, illness, dependents of workers where a fatal accident occurs, educational grants, scholarships, construction of schools and welfare facilities.
The Lighthouse Club Abu Dhabi is dedicated to continuing its commitment to promote comradeship between its members and prospective new members by holding regular informal gatherings, maintaining a varied and interesting sports and a well-supported social calendar with events and functions taking place throughout the year. These include the Annual Eddie Ward Ball, golf days, race days, boat trips and so on.
